"Guns of Benaras" tells the fictional story of a secret agent who is in charge of infiltrating and bringing down a terrorist group. The movie intertwines in-depth characterization and action with brooding philosophical struggles and social commentary in the form of intricate flashbacks. This riveting film explores what it means to fight for one's culture, diplomacy, or country while forgetting to protect oneself. This high-octane drama captures its audience from the start by placing them squarely in an explosive set piece right before introducing us to one of its central characters: former elite commando Ramesh "Rogue" Bisht (Sharma), who has fallen on hard times. His best friend and next-door neighbor, Harsh (Shahrukh Khan), is a small-time crook who helps him out during his time of need—but not without some strings attached. The story really picks up steam when we meet the band of 'urban guerrillas' who have taken it upon themselves to hijack a train and use it to attack the heart of an enemy city. The main character Ramesh isn't too far behind in this grand adventure, but he's forced to switch off his gun for Buddhist philosophy. Our fearless secret service agent must find his way through inner turmoil while making sure that fellow passengers on the train aren't turned into human shields. While the film is fast paced, the narrative does not take any shortcuts for its characters. Sharma and Khan give gritty, layered performances as complex friends who are at each other's throats despite blood bonds. Their chemistry is undeniable. One cannot speak of this movie without commending veteran actress Revathi Menon's powerhouse performance as the feisty social activist Priti. She brings a quiet strength to her role as she bravely questions those in positions of power on behalf of those whose voices have been silenced. The film was also a commercial success, making a profit of ₹¼¼crores during its theatrical run.The soundtrack of "Guns of Benaras" composed by Vivek Harshit Kumar.
